BURDICK REUNION 2008

We had the Burdick reunion July 24, 25, and 26. We went to camp Timberlane. It was a good time. We didn't have the best turn out, but that is okay. You all have good excuses this year, but next year you better be there! Susan has volunteered to be in charge of next years reunion. The kids spent most of their time riding 4-wheelers and motorcycles. Thank you Dastrup's and Burdick's....now Makayla is begging for a motorcycle with training wheels. Here are pictures......

Bryson and Makayla on the motorcycles.

Lots of food and fun!

Caitlin can't get enough of riding the 4-wheeler.

Cousins around the campfire, or was it just smoke?

Caitlin ready to go for a ride...again!

Boating Fun

Today Becky called and invited us to go to the lake with them. Dean, Caitlin and I were just about to walk out the door to an appointment, so they took Logan and Makayla to Steinaker with them. Caitlin and I met up with them later on in the afternoon with pizza for lunch. The kids had a great time, sunburns and all. As I am looking at the pictures I keep wondering why Spencer is not in any of them. Duh...he is at the High Uintah Scout Camp this week. I keep forgetting. :) Here are a few pictures.

Logan and Braden JUST before they fell off.

Caitlin "stuck" in the mud. Why won't those boys help her?

Makayla ready to go!

Logan and Braden think they are pretty cool!

This is Logan's "flipper". It is a thing I bought to go over his cast to keep it dry. Unfortunatly, his arm was too skinny for it and the cast got wet anyway. Oh well, it comes off next week!

The girls were brave enough to try the "hotdog".

Corps Encore

Thursday Dean, Logan, Spencer, Caitlin and I went to Weber State University to see Corps Encore. It is a drum and bugle corps competition. They had bands from six different states competing. None from Utah. We went with the High School band. Originally it was supposed to be just Dean and the boys going on the bus trip. The band instructor called Thursday morning and said they had a couple of extra tickets. Caitiln and I decided last minute to go along. Makayla got to go spend the day at Aunt Becky's playing with Bryson. (They even took her to the movies to see Wall-E).

We rode the school bus out there. It was a sweltering day!! No A/C on the bus. (What is that about anyway?) We sat in the blazing afternoon sun watching a band practice. Did I mention it was HOT! After grabbing a quick bite to eat at the Mall (yes...the mall was air conditioned...YEAH!) we returned to the stadium to watch the program that evening. It was awesome. It was not just your average marching band. There were alot of theatricals in it.

It has been along time since I have been on a bus trip. I don't remember school buss seats being that uncomfortable! We got back to Vernal about 2:30 a.m. That is late for this woman. It was a fun day.

GOOD NEWS!

Today I have some good news. My sister Susan called and said that the lymph node that was removed when she had her mastectomy had no signs that the cancer had spread. This means that she will NOT have to go through chemotherapy or radiation. Whoo Hoo! I am so relieved that she will not have to do that. Now she can have a quick recovery and get on with life. She returns home tomorrow. I think her kids are ready for her to be home again.

Today my other sister, Carol had her LAST round of chemo. She has had to endure six rounds every three weeks. It has been so tough on her. It has really made her sick. I have just hated that she has had to go through that. Now she can work on growing her hair back. Some women might look funny bald, but Carol can really pull it off. I can say she truly looks beautiful with no hair. I loved that she was not shy about pulling off her wig when I went to see her in June. She will have to do a few months of radiation, but wants to delay that until she gets her daughters off to college in August.

I think that I really hate the word cancer. Watching my two sisters battle with it, and my dad's cancer surgery this past spring, I am thinking that it should be quite enough cancer in our family. Got that everybody? No more! :)

Fourth of July

Busy Weekend

What a busy 4th of July Weekend. We started by going to the Vernal Parade. Logan and Spencer were both in the UHS marching band. they did awesome. They have been going to 6:30 a.m. practices all summer. Dean has been working with the band as the marching instructor. He has been enjoying with the band.
After the parade we headed out to Salt Lake City. We had a barbecue with the Cook family. Lots of relatives Dean hadn't seen for awhile were there. Then we went to the West Jordan Rodeo. The kids enjoyed the rodeo. Now my girls want to be barrel racers. Too bad we don't have horses! :) After the rodeo was over the fireworks started. It was kind of sad because all of my kids commented that they missed watching the fireworks in Vernal. Vernal does awesome fireworks. We usually go to the park (with about three million other people) and sit with friends or cousins to watch fireworks. The kids just run around an play. It is fun. Next year we will definitely watch fireworks in Vernal.
That night we went to my sisters house to spend the night. Susan is still in South Carolina recovering from her mastectomy. It was fun to spend some time with her kids. We don't see them that often. Saturday, Logan and Spencer went to Lagoon with the Larsen's. They had a blast. Thanks Wayne and Lisa for taking them. Dean and I took the girls and traded off the old white van. It was time! We love our new Expedition. It is so nice to have some extra room.
Saturday night we stayed at Susan's again. The next morning it was home. We brought my twin nieces, Brooke and Maddie home with us to have a sleepover with us. The girls loved it. Now it is on to an equally busy week. Does it ever end?

Ellie

I have to post about Ellie, our dog. She is a one and a half year old boxer. She is the silliest dog ever. She gets called Ellie, Elles Belles, Ellie Lou, Lou Lou....among other things. She has a freakishly long tongue, and it always hanging out her mouth. She sleeps like that too. I have a video of her opening the sliding glass door. It is only a couple seconds long. It is nothing that we taught her, she just started doing it. If we want her to stay outside we have to lock the door. Now if we could just get her to close it after she comes in, or to open it when she want she wants to go out. (Pay no attention to the dirty window. I actually cleaned it yesterday, but Ellie likes to lick the Windex off it. Gross, I know). We sure have alot of fun with our weird dog!

While I am on the subject of dogs, I just have to mention Allie, my favorite dog of all time. She was an English Bulldog. We don't have her anymore. She died almost two years ago while having a C-section. (That is a LONG story for another day). We still miss her. If anyone wants a "low maintenance" dog this is the kind for you. She just slept alot, and loved to watch T.V. We still miss her.
